The Minnesota Diabetes in Hospitals Action Group offers practical tools and tips for better inpatient care, reference materials and links to key organizations position statements. No need to reinvent the wheel!

There are several triggers that cause hospitals to consider making changes to diabetes care delivery. Safety, errors, quality mandates, are often the first. What is needed to make changes are:

  • Protocols for DKA, HHNC, hypoglycemia treatment – Find examples here and modify them to your use.
  • Staff orientation, continuing education, and competency development – When initiating anything new, staff often find that they need to learn more about diabetes and its treatment in acute care.
